Welcome to the most beautiful region of Bavaria, the picturesque Isarwinkel! Only three kilometers outside the center of Gaißach we are at home on the Schmickhof. This nice little village on the right bank of the Isar borders the well-known towns of Bad Tölz and Lenggries and offers probably the most beautiful view of the Isar valley, which flows upstream into the impressive Karwendel mountains. The first known mention of the Schmickhof by name dates back to 1640! The Danner family led the farm through many years and generations of lively development, at the end of which we are still far from today. In 2019, my husband Andreas took over the dairy farm from his parents. Since the resettlement in 1973, we have enjoyed the generous solitary location of the renovated farm near Gaißach in the Isarwinkel, which even after all these years is based on its original outer walls. Newly added were the two vacation apartments in chalet design with orientation towards the Karwendel mountains, which we have elaborately planned and developed in a lot of own work in 2021 for the first time. Look forward to an extraordinary stay with a view of the Karwendel mountains!
Farm experiences
Would you like a chalet vacation close to nature with lots of space and room for togetherness or family time? In our two new vacation apartments with gallery, there is room for up to four people on up to 70 or 75 square meters. The use of a lot of old wood and the furnishing with high quality carpenter furniture give the spacious and open cut rooms a rustic charm, without losing clarity of a contemporary and modern style. The simple living concept: plenty of space and few walls. The rooms, flooded with light through floor-to-ceiling windows, are stylishly set off by wood-paneled room elements and old wooden beams on the ceiling. A wooden ledge covers the beds and lets guests slumber into the land of dreams with the feeling of sleeping on an alpine pasture. We also wanted to create a cozy feel-good atmosphere with mood lighting. Our highlight for couples in the "Isarursprung" apartment: a freestanding bathtub for two with a view!
Local and sustainable: romantic breakfast under the open sky
How about starting the day with a rich farmer's breakfast in the fresh air? Vacation apartments enchant with an unobstructed view of the Benediktenwand and its rocky neighbors. Upon request, our guests receive a well-filled breakfast basket. In the rustic wooden box you will find everything your breakfast heart desires: jam, eggs and milk from our own production are complemented by delicious spreads, yogurt, sausage and cheese from the region. The south balconies of the two Ask us gladly for further seasonal yard-own products.
Get a taste of the countryside and gather lasting impressions in an authentic farm setting
Have you always wondered what a day in the life of a farmer looks like? Farmer Andreas was born with a love of farming. After growing up on the farm himself, he took on his demanding legacy at Schmickhof a few years ago and has been passionately taking care of our dairy farm ever since. He likes to be accompanied in the daily stable work and shows curious vacationers everything that is involved in living and working on a farm. Our animals are very close to our hearts and that is why we are always pleased to see how quickly our calves in particular grow close to the hearts of our guests. Our small (and large) guests can experience this among other things with us:
Help with feeding the dairy cows
Watering the calves (depending on the season, if there are any)
Soaking stale bread and feeding chickens
Collecting eggs from the hens' nest
After work, race around the farm on the pedal tractors or jump on the trampoline
Anyone who has spent even one day on a farm takes many experiences and impressions back into their everyday life: The smell of hay and the fresh country air, the buzzing of the industrious insects in the meadow, the wonderful concert of bird calls or the tickling of the calf's tongue on your skin - all these sensory impressions remain unforgotten for a long time. However you spend your vacation at the Schmickhof: The main thing is that you enjoy yourself!
Highlights in the surroundings
Whether you are simply sunbathing on your south-facing balcony or hiking through the countryside in the Isarwinkel, cycling or exploring bathing lakes, here in our homeland nature is always your faithful companion. Be inspired by the beauty of the unique Traten - a floodplain and hedgerow landscape protected as a natural monument - between small farms in the rural surroundings. Or explore the Filzen, a raised bog dating back to the Ice Age. Follow the course of the emerald-green Isar River and refresh yourself with a jump into the clear water, which makes its way through beautiful Bavaria directly from the natural reservoirs of the Karwendel Mountains. The Schmickhof also owns the leased "Holzeralm" in Bad Wiessee, which rewards the ascent with a magnificent view of Lake Tegernsee. From the two train stations in Gaißach, the regional train also departs hourly for the state capital of Munich, whose center you can reach in just over an hour.
Winter at the Schmickhof
Even in colder temperatures, the Isarwinkel is always worth a trip, because in the immediate vicinity of our property, the cross-country ski trail runs along a picturesque route in a snowy winter wonderland. Even with ski equipment in your luggage, you can reach the ski circus at Brauneck in Lenggries or the Gaißach "Reiserlift" in just a few minutes by car. And those who return frozen from a leisurely snowshoe hike can warm up again in the comfortably warm thermal water, steam bath and sauna at the Kristalltherme in Kochel am See (30 minutes by car).
